SUMMER HAIR
Summer months are generally very hot. People spend a great deal of time outdoors and in water activities. Exposure to
the sun’s harmful UV rays can lead to dry, brittle hair that changes its color, and summer water activates can create
unpredictable results when working with chemicals. This is generally the best growth time for hair. More active
lifestyles, better eating habits and happy spirits all contribute to this. However there are some side effects we must deal
with.
EFFECTS
1. Oxidation
2. Sweating / Dryness
3. Chlorine Damage
Oxidation
The sun naturally oxidizes the hair and lightens the natural color. The more you expose the hair to UV rays, the lighter
the becomes.
Sweating / Dryness
Excessive sweating may occur during this time of year as activities increase. Sweating leaves salt deposits, which cause a
drying effect on the hair and the scalp. It must be removed with frequent shampoos.

Complete the look with Herbal Complex 4 to alleviate dry scalp.
Chlorine Damage
Water activities increase during the summer months. As a result we are exposed to chlorine, which has a negative effect
on natural hair and even more so on chemically treated hair. It is imperative to remove chlorine immediately from the
hair after exposure. Breakage and dry dull hair can result if hair does not receive the proper maintenance.
Organic Cleanse deep cleanses to thoroughly remove any chemical residue from the hair, and 6-N-1 restores the tensile
strength to the hair. Therapeutics Rx leave-In Hydrating Conditioner can be applied at the time of shampoo to keep
hair
moisturized between salon visits. We recommend Hot Oil Treatments with Design Essentials Botanical Oil every 4th
shampoo to eliminate dull, lifeless hair.

by keeping hair moisturized.
FALL HAIR
During the fall, leaves begin to drop off the trees, grass begins to brown and discolor as well as hair begins to shed a
little more. Following nature’s laws is normal but still requires the professional to address these new concerns. How
you approach the conditioning process and the new desire to change your style can make the difference between healthy
or not so healthy hair.
EFFECTS
1. Shedding
2. Breakage
3. New Style
SPRING HAIR
Springtime is so refreshing after the bitter cold of winter, and his season ultimately results in April/May showers, which
help produce gorgeous blooming flowers. Where there are flowers, there is POLLEN! For many of us spring with all
its glory also presents many physical challenges, since it is considered the worst time of year for those who suffer with
allergies and severe sinus problems. Usually the remedy is to digest large doses of antihistamines, which is effective, but
there can be serious side effects for the hair.
Effect
1. Severe dryness
2. Brittle hair
3. Itchy scalp
4. Breakage
5. Dull, lifeless hair
DRY/BRITTLE
Antihistamines are designed to dry runny noses and mucus, and the same chemicals work throughout the body drying
areas that need moisture. The dry/brittle effect of antihistamines on hair can lead to breakage and leave the hair feeling
like straw. To alleviate this problem, we recommend regular doses of moisture:
Shedding
Shedding during the fall is normal. You should expect an average period of 2 weeks where it seems the amount of hair
loss (75% – 100% strands per day) is doubled. If it continues for a longer period it may indicate some other more
serious problem exists.
Shedding Home Maintenance
1. HCO Leave-In Conditioner
2. Nutriment Rx
If the client is shampooing at home, she should use the HCO Leave-In Conditioner after shampooing to strengthen and
replenish lost nutrients to the hair. Nutriment Rx on the hair scalp will maintain moisture leaving the hair soft and
manageable. Avoid excessive brushing and combing during this period and maintain a nutritious diet to replenish
needed nutrients and vitamins.
Breakage
Breakage may occur due to a poor elasticity and integrity of hair. Again minimize stress to the hair by not wearing hair
too tight (i.e. pony tails, gel and hard spritz styles) and doing more sets instead of blow-drying.

2. Reflections Liquid Shine
Nutriment Rx moisturizes and conditions the hair shaft thereby reducing breakage by providing moisture. A light
misting of Reflections protects the hair from the elements and lightly conditions while imparting incredible sheen.
New Style
Creating a new style, especially one that requires chemicals should always include a thorough consultation. Remember
to find out the commitment level from your client and the true reason for the desired change. Use wisdom to
determine if the client can truly handle the required maintenance for the new style. Use good Judgment! It may better
to say no then to possibly hurt your valuable reputation.
WINTER HAIR
Winter brings holiday cheer, snow, hot chocolate and cozy fires. It is a beautiful and romantic time of year, but the
winter months can have a negative affect on hair and skin. Due to the lack of moisture in the air caused from coming in
an out of heated environments, there is a tendency for hair and skin to become dry and brittle. This can lead to
breakage and sensitivity to chemical applications. Just like the seasons change, we find it necessary to change our skin
and hair care regimen too.
EFFECTS
1. Dry/Brittle
2. Breakage
3. Dull Hair
Dry / Brittle / Breakage
Hair must be maintained with moisture, protein and oil. This combination of conditioning treatments ensures proper
strength, elasticity and shine to the hair. Dry / Brittle hair requires moisture to prevent breakage.
Dull Hair
Dull and lifeless hair is common during the winter season. The extreme temperatures of going from warmth indoor to
extreme cold outdoors robs hair of its needed moisture, which gives the hair life.
Environment
Heated air has decreased humidity and therefore has a drying effect on our skin, nails and hair. Adding a humidifier will
help replace moisture into the air, especially when you’re sleeping.
